Application of Hot Melt Adhesive in the Clothing Field
2025-08-20

Hot melt adhesives are widely used in the clothing industry. With their solvent-free, fast curing, stable bonding and other characteristics, they have become an important choice for replacing needle and thread sewing or traditional glue, especially in improving production efficiency, simplifying processes and optimizing design. The following are the specific application scenarios and advantages:

1. Bonding between fabric and auxiliary materials

Wearing and folding: Use hot melt adhesive (such as EVA film and strips) to replace needle and thread in the cuffs of shirts, collar folding edges, and other parts to avoid fabric damage caused by pinholes and make the edges smoother and more suitable. It is especially suitable for thin chiffon, silk and other easily deformed fabrics.

Adhesive lining: It is the core application of clothing hot melt adhesive. Coat the hot melt adhesive on the lining cloth (such as non-woven lining, spun lining), and bond it to the fabric (suit, coat fabric) through high-temperature ironing to enhance the fabric's clarity, simplify the sewing steps, and there is no hard feeling after bonding, and maintain the breathability of the fabric.

2. Fixing and splicing of components

Pocket and patch embroidery fixing: The edges of the clothing pockets and the back of the embroidery pattern are fixed with hot melt adhesive or adhesive film to reduce the cumbersomeness of needle and thread sewing, avoid the exposure of thread heads, and improve the aesthetics. They are often used in children's clothing, sportswear, etc.

Zipper, Velcro bonding: The connection between the zipper edge, Velcro and fabric is quickly fixed with hot melt adhesive (such as PA glue particles), which is more concealed than needle and thread, and is resistant to washing (to meet the clothing washing standards), suitable for functional clothing such as windbreakers and down jackets.

3. Special craftsmanship and design

Seamless clothing production: Sports tights, underwear, etc. use hot melt adhesive films (such as PES adhesive films) to achieve "seamless splicing", eliminating the friction of traditional stitches, improving wear comfort, and enhancing the elasticity and waterproofness of the fabric (such as diving suits).

Decorative elements paste: decorative parts such as rhinestones, sequins, badges, etc., fixed with low melting point hot melt adhesive, which is more environmentally friendly than glue, and is dry-cleaning resistant, suitable for dresses, stage wear, etc.

4. Advantages and adaptation types

Advantages: No solvent residue, meets clothing environmental protection standards; fast curing speed (several seconds to dozens of seconds), adapted to assembly line production; glue type can be selected according to the fabric characteristics (cotton, chemical fiber, leather) to avoid damage to the fabric.

Commonly used glue types: EVA glue (generic, suitable for cotton and chemical fiber), PA glue (resistant to washing, suitable for outdoor clothing), PES glue (resistant to high temperature, suitable for fabrics that need to be ironed).

Hot melt adhesive makes clothing production more efficient and design more flexible. Especially under the trend of improving functionality, comfort and environmental protection requirements, application scenarios are continuing to expand.
